Single Adult Fellowship
University Baptist Church – Chapel Hill, NC
Like most everything else at UBC, our Single Adult
Ministry is different from most. We don’t segregate
those who happen to not be married or attached to a
significant other at this stage of their adult life. We
literally integrate them into every part of the life of
the church. You’ll find that our singles like it that
way!
SINGLES IN SUNDAY SCHOOL
While most of Single Adults are involved in Sunday
School, our Single Adult Fellowship is not connected
directly to a Sunday morning Bible study group. At UBC
our adult classes are not set up by age group or place
in life. For that reason, our Single Adults choose ANY
adult class where they feel comfortable.
o
Many of our single parents choose the FaithWeaver
Class which meets in the Great Hall. This
interactive group is studying the same passage the youth
and children are studying that day… and are given helps
to relate the lesson to their children when they get
home.
o
Some may feel most at home in one of the classes that
meet in the rooms at the rear of the balcony: the
Graduate Student Class or the Young Adult Class.
[FYI the Young Adult Class has been made up
primarily of married young adults, but singles are
welcomed.]
o
Some single adults choose the Insko Class which
meets on the hallway leading to the sanctuary.
o
Currently, many Single Young Adults are involved in the
Synthesis Class which also meets on the hallway
leading to the sanctuary.
o
Older singles may want to try the Open Door Class,
also on that hallway.
ACTIVITIES
The second Sunday of each month, the Single Adults go to
lunch together at one of the many good restaurants on
Franklin Street. We congregate in the first floor
Gathering Area (outside the Choir Room) and head out
soon after worship. You are welcome to join us!
Most of our activities and meetings spring from within
the group. Basically, someone will invite all the
singles over for a cookout, a dinner, a party at their
place. These may take the form of meeting at a
restaurant and eating together, congregating at
someone’s home for parties/meals, getting together to
attend community functions (movies, museums, theatre,
concerts, street fairs, etc.), watching a local
university basketball or football game… or playing table
games among ourselves! You’ll find these kinds of
gatherings noted in the Sunday morning order of
worship.
We plan short-term Bible studies (six to eight weeks).
These are held in someone’s home, usually on a week
night.
TRIPS
Throughout the year, we make travel plans for our Single
Adults. These may be day trips to somewhere here in
North Carolina, weekend adventures, national Single
Adult Conferences, or even a week-long Single Adult
Vacation Week! |
