Worship

We like to call our services “warm liturgical” because while we follow the lectionary in our worship planning and we incorporate readings and music that support those texts, we make every attempt to keep from being strict in our approach to formality.

On any Sunday, you may hear the choir sing J. S. Bach or John Rutter; the soloist may sing Palestrina or a Christian contemporary song. Our main source of congregational singing is the hymnal, and most of our singing is accompanied by the 22-rank Reuter pipe organ or by the baby grand piano. On occasion, however, we may sing with mandolin, guitar, brass, woodwinds and violin.

We try not to label our worship style, but it is most closely related to what is called “Convergent.” That means that we use music and readings to point toward the main theme for the day, usually the sermon text. Everything we do, however, will have a traditional feeling to it because that’s who we are.
